The Westwood Ensemble is a community arts organization focused on music in the Kansas City metro area. The emphasis is on significant literature and high-quality music making for the enlightenment, enjoyment and education of both the membership of the ensemble(s) and the community audience at large. The focus is non-competitive and collaborative in nature.
- The Westwood Ensemble (WE) is presently a string orchestra rehearsing at the Westwood City Hall.
- There is no fee for membership in the ensemble.
- To be a member of WE string players self-rate themselves with artistic director approval. Violins, Viola, Cello and Double bass players should be able to play a three-octave scale.
- Rehearsal dates, concert dates and locations are posted on the WE website. Practice parts of the music to be performed will also be on the website.
- All WE events are on Wednesday evenings.
- Members can commit to the season or to individual concerts. Members should not miss more than one rehearsal leading up to a given concert date — subject to Director approval.
- Concert dress is all black.
- Student members who are in lessons, school groups or other regular meeting ensembles should not leave those learning situations for WE. The Westwood Ensemble is primarily a performing group.
- Concerts are free to the public.
- The Concert Master and principle players are set and designated by the artistic director. Seating is then open or rotational.
